The regulator is designed to be placed on the vent pipe after the initial 10-minute venting period, at which point the processing time begins as the regulator starts to gently rock. The heat should be adjusted to maintain a slow, steady rocking motion during the processing time.

For low-acid canning (vegetables, meat, poultry, seafood) at altitudes up to 1,000 feet, 10 pounds of pressure should be used. For altitudes above 1,000 feet, 15 pounds of pressure is recommended. For high-acid canning (fruits) at altitudes up to 1,000 feet, 5 pounds of pressure is suggested, while for altitudes above 1,000 feet, 10 pounds of pressure should be used.
